How Trauma F’s With Your Brain – An Insider’s Guide to the Everyday Mind

Workshop Summary:  Tailored for child-serving professionals, this workshop explores how trauma affects the developing brains of young people. Participants will delve into key concepts of brain development, examining how trauma influences neural architecture and emotional well-being. Through collaborative discussions and practical exercises, attendees will analyze case studies to develop targeted intervention strategies. Ultimately, participants will gain actionable insights to positively influence the well-being of the youth they serve.

Learning Objectives: 

1) Participants will gain insights into how trauma impacts the developing brains of children and adolescents.

2) Participants will analyze case studies to identify the neurological implications of trauma and develop targeted intervention strategies.

3) Participants will emerge with actionable insights to positively influence the well-being of the youth they serve through a deeper understanding of trauma's impact on brain development.

Speaker Bio:  

Dr. Amy Fortney Parks brings with her over 30 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families as an educator, psychologist, and clinical supervisor. 

Dr. Parks earned a PhD in Educational Psychology with a specialty in child & adolescent developmental neuroscience. She is the founder of WISE Family Wellness, a group therapy practice in Virginia serving children, teens and families.  She is also the founder of the Clinical Supervision Directory www.clinicalsupervisondirectory.com – a one-stop URL connecting supervisors with supervision-seekers working towards licensure in all mental health fields across the US.

Dr. Parks is a nationally accredited clinical supervisor for Virginia LPC Residents, as well as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She is also an international speaker, the host of the podcast, Supervision Simplified, and the soon-to-be author of a book on the practice of clinical supervision.

Dr. Parks is a native Virginian, a mother of four, and a grandmother to three. In her spare time (haha), she reads teen fiction, mixes Bloody Marys, and hangs out with friends who have boats! You can connect with Dr. Parks on social @heydoctorparks
